Vision AVTR Concept
I understand, if you are buying a luxury car you don’t want to waste energy telling your luxury car what to do. Why not have your car find out what you want by reading your mind?
Yes, you heard correctly! This German automotive company has been pushing the limits of car tech for many years and now Mercedes has done it again with its concept the Vision AVTR. This concept has a mind controlled unit that translates brain waves into actual physical car responses.
Just Think About It
Current technology requires users to wear a BCI device (Brain-Computer Interface) with portable electrodes on the back of their heads, which can read brain waves and then convert them into vehicle functions.
Mercedes has said that after a short calibration process of about a minute, users will be able to control functions of the vehicle by just thinking about it.
Users have to focus on specific points of light on the digital dashboard and the system determines which of them to focus on when using the BCI device by triggering a programmed function.
Mercedes describes the BCI device to measure the activity of neurons in the cortex in real time. Analyzes the measured brain waves and recognizes which light points the user directs their attention to.
The stronger the focus, the more neuron activity in the brain which therefore triggers the appropriate function in the vehicle.
Although this feature is only a concept and might not be officially in cars anytime soon, it is a fact that this technology is not meant to be science fiction anymore.
